Screening (security inspection)
The mandatory security inspection cargo must clear before flying.
Technical definition
Cargo security control process required by air regulations: equipment-based inspection (X-ray, ETD), accredited agents and a secure chain of custody. It's a prerequisite for acceptance and loading.
In plain terms
Screening is the security inspection every air shipment must clear before loading (X-ray, controls, and so on) — either 100% of the cargo, or 10% if the shipper is accredited under the DGAC secure supply chain.
How it works in Chile
It's part of the terminal flow ahead of the cut-off. Cargo that doesn't clear screening in time doesn't fly, even if it physically made it to the terminal.
Common mistakes
- Not building screening time into the cut-off.
- Packaging that makes inspection difficult and slows it down.
- Incomplete security documentation.
