HAWB — House Air Waybill
The house waybill the forwarder issues to each shipper inside a consolidation.
Technical definition
House Air Waybill issued by the forwarder to the shipper. It reflects the contract between the two and the specific terms of that cargo within the consolidation covered by the MAWB.
In plain terms
The HAWB is the 'house' air waybill: the one the forwarder hands to each shipper when their cargo moves consolidated with other shipments.
How it works in Chile
This is the document the Chilean shipper normally handles for a given shipment. Its number is usually different from the MAWB's, which is where tracking confusion starts.
Common mistakes
- Trying to track the HAWB directly on the airline's website (the airline only knows the MAWB).
- Inconsistencies between the HAWB and the invoice or packing list.
